So, I was in bed sleeping early this morning at approximately 5am when I awoke with a rumbling in the house. I first thought that it was Matthew stomping up the stairs as usual, but there was no Matthew. I could hear the wine glasses banging against each other and I thought that my stomach was going to jump out my throat. I tried to nudge Allan to wake him up, but to those of you that know him will not be surprised when I tell you that he didn't even budge! The kids didn't even wake up. Could I have been on that roller coaster all by myself? Was I imagining things?? I woke up Allan asking him if he felt that and he responded as if I was crazy. I started to think that I was. He got up and looked around, inspected the wine glasses that I swore I heard knocking and then climbed back into bed. I kept telling him that it wasn't a dream and he said well maybe it was an earthquake since we live around old volcanoes he said that it was a definite possibility. I thought surely not. Could I have slept through the greater part of an earthquake and only woke up in the last seconds? My kids can usually sleep through anything, but earthquakes? Come on!
Well when Allan woke up he did a little research on earthquakes, but didn't really find anything that pertained to our area. When arriving to work though, everyone was talking about it. We had a 4.0 earthquake last night!! I can't believe it. I can't believe that everyone slept through it but me! It seemed like it only lasted a second, but my stomach is still in knots hours later. It is one of Mother Nature's sides that I never thought I would live to see! Apparently it happens quite often around here, sometimes two times a year. Why nobody ever told me I'll never know. It should be in the welcome packets you get when you first arrive, like a warning label!
